Have you invested in your health by working with a dietitian before? We believe that everyone can benefit from a nutrition check-up with our dietitians. Just like every car needs a yearly service to keep the engine running smoothly, our bodies needs change over time and so does our nutritional requirements.
Optimum Intake Dietitians can help you with everything from raising adventurous eaters in children, developing a life-long healthy relationship with food (without food guilt and body shaming), to medical nutrition therapy for managing illness and chronic health conditions. We LOVE to optimise your health and enjoyment of eating through good quality foods.
Have you been hesitant in seeing a dietitian? We hear many misconceptions about our industry, and we are here to reassure you we are NOT scary, we wont judge you for your food choices (or anything else for that matter) and we truly LOVE all the foods that you do. Ready to have some Dietitian Myths Busted! Read on….
We are the food police.
Quite the opposite! We want to add to your life not takeaway from it. We understand that all foods have a place in a well-balanced diet. We will work with you on changing habits and eating attitudes, to help you add more nutritious foods into your diet rather than removing the foods you love! Learn the skills to provide self care through the form of intuitive eating, we know that enjoying the food you eat will make you healthier and happier. We can teach you how!
We will judge you on what you eat.
Nope! As dietitians we will seek to understand your past and present food and eating perspective and how you developed your eating habits over time. What people and food have influenced your eating patterns and what habits are no longer serving you well. We absolutely do not judge you for it! We are trained to look at many different factors to evaluate your nutrition and health status. Plus, we know it’s the big picture that counts, developing skills to build a strong foundation from which you can achieve a healthy relationship with food. This is our number one goal! We don’t get caught up in what you eat on any single day – life is too short for that!
We will always write you a meal plan.
Truthfully, we really don’t like meal plans. They are often not sustainable and hard to follow long term. PLUS we don’t eat by a meal plan. Sure we put some planning into our meals and snacks, but its not fixed or rigid. We also know that appetite changes from day to day. Instead, we focus on helping you build long-term healthy habits. For someone with specific nutrition needs due to a medical condition, we may find it helpful to start them on a meal plan, but most of the time we will work with clients on making small but impactful diet and behaviour changes.
Dietitians don’t eat cake, chips, ice cream, pizza or chocolate.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. If you asked any of us why we became a dietitian, we would tell you it’s because we love food, not because we want to avoid it. Although we generally have an overall balanced diet, we also enjoy foods people might label as “unhealthy.” There is no perfect way to eat! We know that overall eating habits are more important to our health than individual food choices. That’s why you will see us enjoying a chocolate after dinner or a cheesy pizza and wine on a Friday night.
Now that you know us a bit better and understand why we love food and our approach to optimising our clients eating, we hope that you no longer feel nervous in booking a session with us! We have so much knowledge, skills and strategies that we are just waiting to share with you and we are equally eager to learn more about you, your eating experiences and health goals.
